About

I am not perfect.

I am good, but not great, at many things.

Photographing a naked woman, in that moment, with that woman, is the best moment in the world. There is no place I would rather be.

I don’t know what it’s for, or what will come of it, but I was questioning why I don’t feel as passionately about some things now that I am older.

That night I was forced to get out of bed to write some of this down, and as I did so I realised, yes, this is the same electric rush of passion as when I was younger.

I think that’s not just because of the nudity, it’s because I am being honest to myself about what I want to do, and I am following my dreams. That’s when I feel possessed with the desire to create.

Interestingly, photography reduces the world into moments, each photograph is a snapshot of a moment.

You can never go back to the past.
You cannot know the future.
There is only the moment (the present).

You are a moment.
The earth is a moment.
Life is a moment.

And you are all magnificent…
And if you are not, then you should be…

My background is pretty diverse, but my main passion was developing video games. I spent about 12 years doing that, working my way from game tester, through designer, to creative director, and business owner.

While I love games, and working in the industry, there are issues with game development. To make a high quality game requires a team of people, and that requires a bucket of cash. A team of people also requires human management (managing personalities), and is only as strong as it’s weakest link. Further to that, as creative director you really impose your will on a team, which is fine for the director, but less so for the team.

Since then I have been looking for an alternative art form which ideally only required me. While I am considering writing, the problem with that is it’s a slow process (and as a fast thinker I can find that frustratingly slow!). Shooting with models obviously requires one more person (the model), but it’s pretty close to what I was looking for, and has the advantage of being fast, intuitive, and quick to produce results.

Of course, I now realise that for most “great” photographers, the photograph is a small portion of the work, much of the final effect is achieved in post production, such as Lightroom, Photoshop, and so on!
